SocialRoots.com was created because there was a lack of an Indian voice on the internet. The site was intended to help the global Indian community find a platform to express its opinions and share information. Users can share their opinions and experiences and their fellow community members can read and respond. By providing a place for the Indian community to congregate and share opinions and ratings, SocialRoots hopes to connect Indians from all over the world with the businesses they frequent or may wish to frequent.
There are many different things users can do on the SocialRoots websites. They can reach out to their fellow Indians and provide feedback about the businesses they have dealt with or read feedback left by others. Although these are not really new concepts on the internet, the main draw to SocialRoots is the site’s focus on heritage. SocialRoots is intended to help Indians all over the world find a common resource to share their heritage and opinions.
The Social Roots website uses a sleek design with an eye-catching logo that features many small figures that construct a globe shape, along with two figures holding on tight. The logo is fitting given the purpose of the site. The general lay out is relatively well organized, although there are quite a few things to do on the site which can seem a little overwhelming at first to a new user.
Visitors can join SocialRoots by clicking on the yellow “Sign in/Register” button at the upper, right hand corner of the homepage (under the main header). The user must click the large, gold “Sign Up” button along the right hand column of the following page to continue. The registration form asks for a first and last name, email address, password, country location, city and state information, gender, generation, age group and Captcha code to verify that the user is human. After agreeing to the terms of service, the user can submit their information and begin using SocialRoots.
SocialRoots thrives by encouraging more users to sign up. Luckily, the site does not require a registration or subscription fee. There are no costs associated with SocialRoots. Users can read or leave feedback for businesses and get to know their fellow Indians from all over the world. The site is still in beta, so there could be changes made in the future that include the addition of a premium paid membership. No indication that this will change has been given. For now, anyone can create an account for free.
Social Roots targets a group of people with a specific heritage: Indians. It doesn’t matter where in the world they live, if the user has any Indian heritage they can really appreciate the growing community of SocialRoots.
